Change Your Server Password

The problem seems to be in what Red Giant does when you attempt to log in and change your password - when it tells you the old password was incorrect. Yet it will still change your password for you, and the new password will let you log into the server (I have no idea why it behaves this way). Follow the steps below, and you should be able to work around the server's weirdness to change your password and then log into Red Giant:

1. From any internet-connected Mac, bring the Finder application to the foreground.
2. Hit "command" (apple key) + "k" to connect to the server.
3. In the "server address" field, type "chil.rice.edu", then click "connect".
4. "Registered user" should be selected as the user type.
5. For the "name" field, give it your user name, then click "options".
6. Click "change password".
7. For the "old password field", give it your old password, then type your own password into the two "new password" fields. Click "ok".
8. The server will return an error message, "Change Password Failed. Sorry, the old password you entered was incorrect. Please try again." Click "ok".
9. Oddly enough, the server will actually change your password and return you to the login options dialog window (says "Connect to "Red Giant" using:" at the top). Click "cancel".
10. Then Finder will return you to the original login window (says "Connect to the file server "Red Giant" as:" at the top), where it will still have your login name in the name field. Type your new password into the password field and click "connect". It should now log you into Red Giant and present you a list of volumes that you may mount.

Totally bizarre, I know, but it worked repeatedly for me.
