Mimio
CHIL@Rice

Mimio is a piece of technology that rates very high on the "cool" factor. It is used to record and capture the whiteboards in the CHIL Analysis Lab.

Using Mimio

To use Mimio make sure the hardware is suction-cupped to the whiteboard and fire up the program on Nebula (Applications/Mimio/). Create a new whiteboard and begin writing and erasing, making sure that you hear the buzz that indicates that the pens and eraser are sending their signals. (Note, the board size, which can be specified under the "Settings" tab, is 4' x 8' in the CHIL Analysis lab.) As the batteries of the individual pens go down, you will begin to get "blind spots" on the whiteboard where your writing will not be captured. Time to switch pens and/or buy new batteries.

Saving Whiteboards

Mimio boards are saved on Red Giant in Public/Mimio boards/. They can be opened again in Mimio, or they can be exported from Mimio in a different format, such as JPEG, and opened in a graphics program, such as Photoshop.

Consumables

Mimio marker holsters use LR1 1.5V alkaline batteries of the type commonly used for cameras. The Mimio system needs Expo series 82000 (bullet tip) or 83000 (chisel tip) dry erase markers. Or at least those are two markers that will fit within the Mimio marker holster.
