Tape Drive
CHIL@Rice

If a tape breaks inside the drive, the tape drive will fail to respond and the vertical bar LED will be solid amber. Refer to the tape drive manual [PDF] for more information about the tape drive's LED display.

The drive must be reset using the following procedure:
1. Turn off tape drive.
2. Disconnect tape drive's firewire cable.
3. Quit or force quit Retrospect.
4. If at least 10 seconds have passed since tape drive power-down, turn tape drive power on.
5. Broken tape should eject automatically, but you may have to press eject button.
6. Reconnect tape drive's firewire cable.
7. Launch Retrospect and manually run the backup script and backup set that contained the broken tape so that it can be replaced immediately.
8. Record the date of the tape breakage in the log below so that the drive's reliability may be monitored.
